A walk-through door (also called a man-door or wicket door) is a hinged pedestrian door built into one section of the garage door at the factory. It opens and closes like a regular door — handle, lock, and a low step-over threshold — while the garage door around it works exactly as before, opener included.
How It Works
- Built into the door — the pedestrian door is part of the sectional door, sealed and insulated like the rest of it
- Low threshold — a small step-over at the bottom, easy with tools, groceries, or a stroller
- Safety interlock — a switch stops the automatic opener from running while the walk-through door is open

Walk-Through Questions
Can you add a walk-through door to my existing garage door?
Usually not — a walk-through door is engineered into the door at the factory, with reinforced sections and matching hardware. Cutting one into an existing door weakens it and voids its rating. In almost every case it comes with a new door, and we’ll tell you honestly if yours is an exception.
Is it safe with an automatic opener?
Yes. A safety interlock switch prevents the opener from running while the walk-through door is open, so the big door can never move with someone stepping through it.
Can I lock it?
Yes — it has a proper handle and lock, just like a front door. Your garage stays as secure as it was with a standard door.
Does it leak cold air or water?
The pedestrian door is sealed all around with weatherstripping and a low threshold, and the panel itself is insulated. It’s built for Canadian winters — it loses far less heat than opening the full door.
